O problemach z edycją epigramatycznej spuścizny Stanisława Niewieskiego

Artykuł poświęcony jest epigramatom Stanisława Jana Niewieskiego, który zasłynął przede wszystkim jako twórca kalendarzy publikowanych w latach 1671–1699. W kalendariach swych almanachów w specjalnej rubryce Rytmy na lunacyje zamieszczał krótkie epigramaty satyryczne spod znaku Marcjalisa. Utwory te pełniły w kalendarzach funkcję rozrywkową, lecz Niewieski, najwyraźniej przekonany o samoistności i komercyjnym potencjale swych prób poetyckich, pod koniec życia opublikował wybór pięciuset z nich w zbiorze Rytmy albo wiersze. Po śmierci autora fraszki wznowiono jeszcze dwukrotnie w wieku XVIII, jednak w innej już redakcji, jako dzieło anonimowe i pod zmienionym tytułem. Niniejsze opracowanie porządkuje wiadomości o XVII- i XVIII-wiecznych edycjach i zachowanych z nich egzemplarzach oraz omawia problemy związane z przygotowaniem krytycznego wydania tych utworów.

The article focuses on epigrams by Stanisław Niewieski, who earned his reputation mostly as an author of almanacs published in 1671–1699. In a special rubric of his calendars called “Rytmy na lunacyje” [Rhymes for Lunar Months], he published short satirical epigrams reminiscent of Martial. Even though they were added to the calendars for entertainment, Niewieski was apparently convinced they could gain popularity on their own merits, which is why near the end of his life he published a collection of 500 of them titled Rytmy albo wiersze [Rhymes or Verses]. Following his death, the epigrams were republished twice in the 18th century, but in a different edition and as an anonymous work bearing a different title. The article systematises the information on the 17th- and 18th-century editions and their surviving copies and discusses some problems that arise should one want to prepare a critical edition of these epigrams.
