Abstrakt (EN)
This article has a double aim. The first part contains an analysis of Stephen Langton’s views on predestination and reprobation. After a short description of Langton’s basic views on faith, merit, and grace, two characteristic problems are discussed: first, whether predestination and reprobation confer some property on human beings; second, whether reprobation depends on the future. The second part of the article offers the first critical edition of a portion of Stephen Langton’s Commentary on the Epistle to the Romans. It is preceded by an introduction reconstructing the history of composition and transmission of the Commentary.
