Koncepcja zależności ontycznych na gruncie ontologii czterokategorialnej E.J. Lowe'a

W pracy została zrekonstruowana koncepcja zależności ontycznych E.J. Lowe’a oparta na jego systemie ontologii czterokategorialnej. W pierwszej kolejności zarysowano kontekst problemowy oraz historyczny, zwłaszcza Arystotelesowskie źródła odnośnej tematyki. W drugim rozdziale skupiono się na przedstawieniu stanowiska Lowe’a. Omówiono podziały relacji zależności ze względu na trzy kryteria: (i) źródło zależności; (ii) aspekt zależności; (iii) zakres zależności. Następnie ukazano zastosowanie pojęć zależności w ramach teorii kategorii oraz możliwość wyznaczenia za ich pomocą czterech podstawowych kategorii bytowych reprezentowanych przez kwadrat ontologiczny. Rozdział trzeci poświęcony został metateorii zależności ontycznych. Dla ujęcia problematyki posłużono się aparaturą pojęciową wypracowaną przez Ingardena, w szczególności pojęciami formy i materii. Ponadto dokonano odróżnienia relacji regularnych od relacji formalnych, których zależność stanowi jeden z przykładów. Dalej zaprezentowano eliminatywistyczne podejście Lowe’a do relacji formalnych oraz kategorii ontologicznych, pozwalające na uniknięcie regresu Bradleya. Przybliżono związki zachodzące między zależnościami i pozostałymi relacjami formalnych. Na koniec wprowadzono zmodyfikowane pojęcia Ingardenowskie zależności w węższym sensie oraz niesamodzielności, które umożliwiły bardziej szczegółowe, a także adekwatne ujęcie relacji obrazowanych przez kwadrat ontologiczny.

In this paper, I reconstruct E.J. Lowe's theory of ontological dependencies based on his four-category ontology. First, I outline the context, with particular emphasis on Aristotelian sources. In the second chapter, I focus on Lowe's position. I discuss divisions of dependence relations according to three criteria: (i) the source of dependence; (ii) the aspect of dependence; (iii) the range of dependence. Subsequently, I show an application of these concepts in the context of the theory of categories and the possibility of determining, with their help, the four basic categories represented in the ontological square. The third chapter is devoted to the metatheory of ontological dependencies. To grasp the problem I use Ingarden's conceptual apparatus, in particular the concepts of form and matter. Furthermore, I distinguish regular relations from formal ones, as the dependence is one of the examples of the latter. Thereafter, I portray Lowe's eliminativist approach to formal relations and ontological categories. This helps to avoid Bradley's regress. I sketch connections between dependencies and other types of formal relations. Finally, I introduce modified Ingardenian concepts of dependence in the narrow sense and inseparability. These enable a more detailed and adequate account of the relations depicted by the ontological square.
