The work is devoted to examining the phenomenon of border zones and liminal states in the context of death, presented in the book Fishing for the Little Pike by Juhani Karila. The aim of the work is to trace where border zones appear in the novel and what conditions must exist for liminal states to arise. What is also important is what happens in connection with them and what impact they have on the characters, as well as what placing the whole thing in the context of death brings to the analysis. The work describes how the reality of the living and the dead intertwine. When considering this subject, I refer mainly to folklore concepts, especially issues related to the beliefs of northern cultures, as well as symbolic anthropology of rites of passage and terminology from the field of literary theory. The work demonstrates the existence of border zones and liminal states in the novel related to the phenomenon of death, as well as presents their function, which is to explore the characters' psyche and deepen the creation of the world.
