Proces przepracowania traumy w utworach El Tercer Paraíso Cristiana Alarcóna i Beloved Toni Morrison: anailza komparatystyczna w kontekście biblioterapii

Celem niniejszej pracy jest analiza sposobów przedstawiania doświadczenia traumy w dwóch utworach literackich: El tercer paraíso Cristiana Alarcóna oraz Beloved Toni Morrison. Praca koncentruje się na źródłach traumy oraz sposobach jej manifestowania się w życiu bohaterów. Analizowany jest także jej wpływ na kształtowanie się ich tożsamości, relacji z otoczeniem oraz ich walka o dobrostan. Wskazane są również strategie narracyjne wykorzystane do przedstawienia doświadczeń granicznych bohaterów. Podstawę teoretyczną analizy stanowi koncepcja traumy Cathy Caruth, ujmująca traumatyczne doświadczenie jako wydarzenie, do którego świadomość nie ma dostępu i które powraca w późniejszym czasie. Koncepcja ta wyjaśnia także stadia mierzenia się z traumą. Istotnym elementem pracy jest perspektywa komparatystyczna, umożliwiająca zestawienie dwóch dzieł literackich, które powstały w odmiennych kontekstach historycznych i kulturowych. Wykonana w niej analiza porównawcza skupia się na podobieństwach i różnicach w sposobach reprezentowania traumy, lecz także na ujawnieniu poprzez interpretowane teksty uniwersalnego charakteru omawianego zjawiska. Praca podkreśla również biblioterapeutyczny potencjał literatury. Analizowane utwory zostają przedstawione jako przestrzeń umożliwiająca refleksję nad cierpieniem i pamięcią oraz przepracowywanie trudnych doświadczeń. Badanie prowadzi do wniosku, że literatura może pełnić funkcję nie tylko estetyczną, lecz także wspierającą proces rozumienia własnych przeżyć i doświadczeń innych osób.

The aim of this thesis is to analyse the ways in which traumatic experience is represented in two literary works: „El tercer paraíso” by Cristian Alarcón and „Beloved” by Toni Morrison. The text focuses on the sources of trauma and the ways in which it manifests itself in the characters’ lives. Its influence on the formation of their identities, their relationships with others, and their struggles to regain well-being are also examined. Particular attention is paid to the narrative strategies used to represent the characters’ traumatic experiences. The theoretical framework of the analysis is based on Cathy Caruth’s concept of trauma, which defines traumatic experience as an event that cannot be fully assimilated by consciousness at the moment of its occurrence and that returns later in the form of memories and symptoms. This concept also explains the process of confronting and working through trauma. An important element of the thesis is the comparative perspective, which enables the juxtaposition of two literary works created within different historical and cultural contexts. The comparative analysis focuses on both similarities and differences in the representation of trauma, while also reveals, through the interpretation of the analysed texts, the universal nature of this phenomenon. The anlysis demonstrates that literature may serve not only an aesthetic function but also contributes to the process of understanding of one’s own experiences and those of others.
