Abstrakt (EN)

The purpose of this essay is to examine the situation regarding human rights in Iran after the year 2009. For years, Iran has been criticized for violating human rights and has significantly gained a lot of attention following the death of Mahsa Amini, a twenty-two-year-old Kurdish woman who died after being arrested and beaten by the morality police. I chose the year 2009 because it was the year of elections in Iran which also caused great uproar and huge protests which resulted in the creation of the Green Movement, and I want to examine what impact this movement had on the progression of human rights in Iran. In the first chapter, I will be examining the general regulations regarding human rights in the international community and then specifically the situation between Islam and human rights since Iran is an Islamic state, and then human rights in Irans' internal law. In the next chapter I will be describing the 1979 Revolution and its impact on human rights in Iran to provide background, then the 2009 elections and how they caused the Green Movement, and next how the government's attitude towards human rights issues changed after that. Lastly in the third chapter, I will be examining the specific situations regarding certain groups in Iran. Those include ethnic groups, religious groups, and women.
