The article focuses on the analysis of one of the sermons by Szymon Starowolski, a 17th-century preacher, written for the celebration of Archangel Michael and included in the collection "Świątnica Pańska" (1645). The author presented an antagonism between Michael (as the leader of the heavenly army) and Lucifer, resembling a dispute between an eagle and a turtle. Starowolski admitted being inspired by the Italian theologian Paolo Aresi. However, comparing both texts reveals that the Polish author committed plagiarism. This suggests that implying he had read all the sources he referenced was not true — Starowolski not only borrowed the concept from Aresi but also almost all the bibliographic references.
Why „There is Inmate Hatred between these Two Animals – the Eagle and the Turtle”..., or about the Dispute of Archangel Michael with Lucifer (Based on the Sermon by Szymon Starowolski)
