Strategies, solutions and errors in translating non-binary language in reality competition shows based on the voice-over and subtitles in the Polish version of the fourth season of the British make-up competition Glow Up

Niniejsza praca poświęcona jest strategiom, rozwiązaniom i typowym błędom związanym z tłumaczeniem języka niebinarnego w programach typu reality show, koncentrując się na polskiej wersji czwartego sezonu brytyjskiego konkursu makijażowego Glow Up. Część teoretyczna rozpoczyna się analizą angielskiego i polskiego języka niebinarnego. Kolejny rozdział dotyczy roli tłumacza jako kreatora rzeczywistości, który kształtuje tendencje językowe i kulturowe, aby móc stworzyć dokładne i inkluzywne tłumaczenie. W trzecim rozdziale przedstawiona została klasyfikacja błędów Krzysztofa Hejwowskiego, wykorzystywana w części analitycznej do identyfikacji i kategoryzacji błędów popełnionych w polskim tłumaczeniu programu. Czwarty rozdział, który jest częścią praktyczną, zawiera szczegółową analizę polskiego tłumaczenia czwartego sezonu programu Glow Up, przedstawiającą zastosowane rozwiązania i wskazującą błędy przekładowe. We wnioskach podsumowujących pracę zawarto ocenę tłumaczenia, a także przedstawiono sugestie dotyczące dalszego rozwoju badań lingwistycznych nad polskim językiem niebinarnym.

This thesis explores the strategies, solutions, and common errors involved in translating non-binary language within reality competition shows, focusing specifically on the Polish version of the fourth season of Glow Up, a British make-up competition. The theoretical part of this thesis begins with an examination of non-binary language in both Polish and English. The next chapter delves into the role of the translator, conceptualizing them as creators of reality, who influence linguistic and cultural landscapes to produce an accurate and inclusive translation. The third chapter presents Krzysztof Hejwowski's error classification framework that will be later used to identify and categorize translation errors committed in the Polish translation of the show. The fourth chapter, which is also the analytical part of this thesis, provides a detailed analysis of the Polish translation of the fourth season of Glow Up, evaluating the solutions implemented and identifying errors that occurred in the translation process. The conclusion that closes this thesis evaluates the translation, but also provides suggestion of what should be further developed in the linguistic research on Polish non-binary language.
