Abstrakt (EN)
Wilhelm Adolph was a composer of liturgical music written for the needs of Catholic churches in the Glogau Archdeaconry, an area which in that period was first under the Austrian Habsburg rule, and from 1741 became part of the Kingdom of Prussia. Only four compositions by Wilhelm Adolph have survived to our times, all of them in single copies. His Vesperae in F, preserved in the musical collection of the Heiligelinde post-Jesuit boarding school can be labelled as ‘solemn’ because of their considerable dimensions, lofty character, large performing forces. Our edition aims to restore one of the forgotten minor masters belonging to that culture to wider circulation among both performers and musicologists.
