Znaczenie kultu i pomników czeskich patronów: św. Jana Nepomucena i św. Wacława w kulturze czeskiej

Niniejsza praca koncentruje się na znaczeniu kultu oraz pomników św. Jana Nepomucena i św. Wacława w kulturze czeskiej. Jej celem jest przedstawienie, w jaki sposób obaj święci stali się ważnymi symbolami religijnymi, historycznymi i narodowymi oraz jak ich pamięć została utrwalona w przestrzeni publicznej poprzez pomniki i miejsca pamięci.

W pracy omówiono pojęcia pomnika, pamięci zbiorowej oraz kultu religijnego, a także przedstawiono rozwój kultu obu świętych. Przeanalizowano również wybrane pomniki, między innymi figurę św. Jana Nepomucena na Moście Karola oraz pomnik św. Wacława autorstwa Josefa Václava Myslbeka, a także współczesną reinterpretację postaci św. Wacława stworzoną przez Davida Černego. Praca ukazuje, że pomniki pełnią nie tylko funkcje religijne i artystyczne, lecz także stanowią ważne nośniki pamięci zbiorowej oraz symbole czeskiej tożsamości narodowej.

This thesis focuses on the significance of the cult and monuments of Saint John of Nepomuk and Saint Wenceslas in Czech culture. Its aim is to present how both saints became important religious, historical, and national symbols, and how their memory has been preserved in public space through monuments and sites of remembrance.

The thesis discusses the concepts of monuments, collective memory, and religious cult, and presents the development of the veneration of both saints. It also analyzes selected monuments, including the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk on the Charles Bridge and the Saint Wenceslas Monument created by Josef Václav Myslbek, as well as the contemporary reinterpretation of Saint Wenceslas by David Černý. The study demonstrates that monuments serve not only religious and artistic functions but also act as important carriers of collective memory and symbols of Czech national identity.
