Nowa polityka Republiki Korei wobec Koreańskiej Republiki Ludowo-Demokratycznej po 1998 roku była instrumentem realizacji aspiracji regionalnych Korei Południowej, która dążąc do umocnienia swojej pozycji potrzebowała stabilizacji na Półwyspie Koreańskim. Działania podjęte przez Koreę Południową w ramach nowej strategii opierały się głównie na współpracy ekonomicznej i humanitarnej, odkładając w dalszej perspektywie kwestię zjednoczenia Półwyspu Koreańskiego. Celem pracy jest zrekonstruowanie założeń nowej polityki Republiki Korei wobec Koreańskiej Republiki Ludowo-Demokratycznej od 1988 roku i ocenę dotychczasowych wysiłków podjętych przez Republikę Korei w celu unormowania stosunków z północnym sąsiadem. W pracy skupiono się na przedstawieniu kontekstu historycznego, ewolucji przyjętych strategii zagranicznych Korei Południowej i Korei Północnej po 1988 r., a także wpływu ewolucji tej polityki na relacje bilateralne, relacje w regionie i bezpieczeństwo subregionu Azji Północno-Wschodniej. Skupiono się na szeroko rozumianej analizie treści jaką stanowią źródła pierwotne, monografie, artykuły naukowe i prasowe.

The Republic of Korea's new policy towards the Democratic People's Republic of Korea after 1998 was an instrument for realizing South Korea's regional aspirations, which, in seeking to strengthen its position, needed stability on the Korean Peninsula. The actions taken by South Korea as part of its new strategy were based mainly on economic and humanitarian cooperation, postponing the issue of Korean Peninsula reunification to a later date. The aim of this thesis is to reconstruct the principles of the Republic of Korea's new policy towards the Democratic People's Republic of Korea since 1988 and to assess the efforts made so far by the Republic of Korea to normalize relations with its northern neighbor. The thesis focuses on presenting the historical context, the evolution of the foreign policies adopted by South Korea and North Korea after 1988, as well as the impact of this policy evolution on bilateral relations, regional relations, and the security of the Northeast Asian subregion. The focus is on a broad analysis of primary sources, monographs, scientific articles, and press articles.
