Spory filozoficzne w świetle fikcjonalizmu

Praca proponuje metodę ujednolicenia pojęć będących przedmiotem sporów filozoficznych, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem rozbieżnych koncepcji piękna w ujęciu sokratejskim i kantowskim. Z uwagi na metateoretyczny charakter tych badań, ich punktem wyjścia są dyskusje metaontologiczne zapoczątkowane przez Rudolfa Carnapa i Willarda van Ormana Quine'a oraz kontynuowane przez Eli Hirscha i Theodore'a Sidera. Identyfikując ograniczenia wymienionych teorii, praca zestawia je z fikcjonalistyczną postawą epistemiczną, która umożliwia traktowanie zdań o danym pojęciu jako prawdziwe lub fałszywe bez konieczności przyjmowania realistycznego nastawienia do przedmiotu rozważań. W oparciu o fikcjonalizm oraz teorię plików mentalnych konstruowana jest metoda analizy pojęć opisanych w niespójnych wzajemnie językach, którą następnie stosuje się do wypracowania spójnej interpretacji pojęcia piękna łączącej ujęcie sokratejskie z kantowskim.

This work suggests a method for consolidating terms whose meaning sparked numerous, as well as ongoing debates in philosophy. Most notably the term ‘beauty’, whose two seemingly incompatible conceptions, socratic and kantian, have been analysed here thoroughly. Given the metatheoretical character of this investigation, it has been devised based on the metaontological discussions initiated by Rudolf Carnap and William Van Orman Quine. In identifying the limitations of their theories, this paper compares them to a fictionalist epistemic attitude, which enables one to treat sentences about certain objects or events as true or false without the need to regard said objects or events in a realistic fashion. In this paper a method for analysis of terms in logically incompatible languages is devised based on fictionalism, as well as the theory of mental files. This method then enables one to consolidate the socratic and kantian interpretations of beauty.
