Przekształcanie wybranych miast Stanów Zjednoczonych w przyjazne dla pieszych i rowerzystów

Celem pracy było przedstawienie przemian jakie zaszły w San Francisco, Bostonie i Chicago w podejściu do roli pieszych i rowerzystów w strukturze miasta oraz rozwiązań zastosowanych w celu zapewnienia im wygody i bezpieczeństwa. Praca przedstawia historię planowania przestrzennego w tych miastach w aspekcie transportu, w tym rolę samochodu osobowego w dawnym zarządzeniu polityką transportową oraz reakcje społeczności lokalnych na wybory podejmowane przez planistów w XX wieku. Obejmuje także informacje o tym, jak zmieniły się priorytety tych miast w zagospodarowaniu przestrzeni ulicznej oraz jakie rozwiązania stosują obecnie do rozwiązywania bieżących problemów. Na koniec zestawione zostały dane o wszystkich trzech miastach, San Francisco, Bostonie i Chicago, zbierając podobieństwa i różnice między historią ich podejścia do transportu w mieście.

The aim of this thesis was to present the changes that have taken place in San Francisco, Boston and Chicago in terms of the approach to the role of pedestrians and cyclists in the city structure, as well as the solutions implemented to ensure their comfort and safety. The thesis presents the history of spatial planning in these cities in terms of transport, including the role of the automobile in former transport policy management and the reactions of local communities to the choices made by planners in the 20th century. It also includes information on how the priorities of these cities have changed in terms of street space development and what solutions they are applying today to solve current problems. Finally, data on all three cities, San Francisco, Boston and Chicago, has been compiled, highlighting the similarities and differences between the history of their approach to urban transportation.
