W rozdziale drugim pt. Szkolnictwo wyższe w Polsce – stan i uwarunkowania rozwoju skoncentrowano się na europejskim, instytucjonalnym i demograficznym podłożu funkcjonowania polskiego systemu szkolnictwa wyższego. W rozdziale trzecim pt. Media studenckie w Polsce przypomniano tradycje polskiej prasy i radiofonii studenckiej w podziale na poszczególne dekady XX wieku, przedstawiono zasady funkcjonowania telewizji studenckiej i dokonano definicyjnego rozróżnienia pomiędzy mediami studenckimi a akademickimi. W rozdziale czwartym pt. Koncepcja metodologiczna pracy oraz charakterystyka terenu badań i badanej zbiorowości sformułowano problemy, założenia i hipotezy badawcze, opisano szczegółowo metodologię badań, scharakteryzowano badane środowisko oraz przedstawiono specyfikę badanej zbiorowości. W rozdziale piątym pt. Media studenckie w opinii twórców i odbiorców szczegółowo przedstawiono wyniki badań empirycznych dotyczących roli mediów studenckich w kreowaniu wizerunku uczelni.

Nowadays, the market of universities in Poland is highly competitive, with more than 400 institutions, and a decreasing number of students associated with the demographic low. Existing elements of competition such as the educational offer, the standard of education, faculty teaching assignments, methods of recruitment, infrastructure, IT facilities and convenient location, no longer significantly differentiate the university. The new aspect of the competition is the image that is the opinion of the university in the academic environment, in the media and in the public awareness. The role of the image for today's organizations, including universities, cannot be overestimated. Most of them know that a positive image is the base for the company's long-term development, and the negative can cause its fall. The basic aim of the PhD thesis is to identify the role that the student media play in creating the image of the university. In addition, the thesis answers the following questions: • whether the student media is a good tool in creating the image of the university, • whether among the creators of student media it is widespread awareness of the role promoting and reputation building factors of the media, • whether the university ownership type and its age have any impact on the functions that student media implement, • whether the student media are an integrating factor for the student community, • whether the student media are an important element of visual communication with institutional environment This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter Theoretical basis of the phenomena is about theoretical issues associated with formation and role of the image in an interdisciplinary perspective, a review of the theory in the field of social and cultural impact of mass media and the description of the reasons, forms and tools to compete with other universities. In the second chapter Higher education in Poland - the development conditions is focused on the European institutional and demographic base of the Polish system of higher education. In the third chapter Student media in Poland present the history of this subject in the end of the twentieth century, describes the principles of the student press, radio and television and makes a clear distinction between student and academic media. The fourth chapter The methodological concept of research and the characteristics of the study area and surveyed population presents research problems, assumptions and hypotheses, research methodology, characterised tested environment and presents the specificity of the test surveyed population. In chapter five Media student in the opinion of theirs creators and consumers presents in details the results of empirical research on the role of the media in shaping the image of university. In the final part of the thesis there is included: completion, bibliography, lists of tables, graphs and drawings, and an annex containing a directory of student media and applied research tools.
