W dziele Hernándeza postacie żeńskie są marginalizowane i przedstawiane głównie jako opiekunki domowego ogniska oraz obiekty seksualne, co odzwierciedla patriarchalną strukturę społeczeństwa XIX wieku. Las Aventuras de la China Iron oferuje nową perspektywę, nadając kobietom głos i podmiotowość. Główna bohaterka, China Iron, odkrywa swoją tożsamość i seksualność, sprzeciwiając się tradycyjnym rolom płciowym. Poprzez parodię i subwersję ról, utwór ten kwestionuje normy społeczne, promując bardziej inkluzywną i różnorodną wizję kobiety gaucho. Analiza tych dzieł pozwala zaobserwować zmiany w przedstawieniach postaci żeńskich w literaturze gauczowskiej oraz ich wpływ na konstruowanie nowej, bardziej zróżnicowanej i sprawiedliwej tożsamości narodowej.

The work analyzes the representations of female characters in José Hernández's Martín Fierro and Gabriela Cabezón Cámara's The Adventures of China Iron to understand the evolution of the representation of gaucho women in Argentine literature. In Hernández's work, female characters are marginalized and portrayed mainly as caretakers of the home and sexual objects, reflecting the patriarchal structure of 19th-century society. The Adventures of China Iron offers a new perspective, giving women a voice and subjectivity. The main character, China Iron, discovers her identity and sexuality, challenging traditional gender roles. Through parody and subversion of roles, this work questions social norms, promoting a more inclusive and diverse vision of the gaucho woman. The analysis of these works allows us to observe changes in the representations of female characters in gaucho literature and their impact on constructing a new, more diverse, and just national identity.

El trabajo analiza las representaciones de personajes femeninos en Martín Fierro de José Hernández y Las Aventuras de la China Iron de Gabriela Cabezón Cámara, con el fin de comprender la evolución de la representación de las mujeres gauchas en la literatura argentina. En la obra de Hernández, los personajes femeninos son marginalizados y presentados principalmente como cuidadoras del hogar y objetos sexuales, lo que refleja la estructura patriarcal de la sociedad del siglo XIX. Las Aventuras de la China Iron ofrece una nueva perspectiva, dando voz y subjetividad a las mujeres. La protagonista, China Iron, descubre su identidad y sexualidad, oponiéndose a los roles de género tradicionales. A través de la parodia y la subversión de roles, esta obra cuestiona las normas sociales, promoviendo una visión más inclusiva y diversa de la mujer gaucha.
