Wariat z Krupówek i the Tell-Tale Heart, czyli przedstawienie artystów osobnych w mediach polskich i amerykańskich na podstawie filmów Niebezpieczni dżentelmeni i Bielmo

Praca skupia się na analizie i charakterystyce specyficznie osobnych artystów w filmach fabularyzowanych dwóch krajów: Stanów Zjednoczonych Ameryki i Polski. Osnową dla tego porównania stały się postacie Edgara Allana Poego w amerykańskim filmie Bielmo i Stanisława Ignacego Witkiewicza w polskim filmie Niebezpieczni dżentelmeni. Pierwsze dwa rozdziały pracy przedstawiają skondensowane do najważniejszych życiowych wydarzeń biografie historycznych prototypów postaci. W oparciu o bogate w obydwu przypadkach źródła biograficzne, przedstawiono w nich dzieciństwo i młodość bohaterów, okres formatywny, dorosłe życie oraz – w różny sposób nietypową – śmierć artystów. W tej części pracy obficie przytoczono listy Poego i Witkacego, a także osób im bliskich, by dać czytelnikowi pojęcie o uczuciach, jakie targały nimi w poszczególnych momentach życia. Dwa kolejne rozdziały pracy to, odpowiadająca teorii, szczegółowa analiza filmów, rozpoczynająca się od krótkiego rozpatrzenia dotychczasowej twórczości osób kreatywnie z nimi związanych. Nim przystąpiono do charakterystyki postaci, drobiazgowo opisano fabułę każdego z filmów. Postacie analizowane są wieloaspektowo, szczególny nacisk położony został na język, jakim się posługują oraz ich relacje z otoczeniem, jako jedne z elementów najsilniej konstytuujących całość tych filmowych bohaterów. Nie pominięto stroju i scenografii. Wyciągnięto wnioski dotyczące całokształtu postaci w filmie. W zakończeniu pracy podsumowano wyniki analizy. Podzielono się też, opartymi na niej i na własnych obserwacjach, osobistymi wnioskami co do roli artystów w mediach amerykańskich i polskich.

The work focuses on the analysis and characterization of specific artists in feature films from two countries: the United States of America and Poland. The basis for this comparison were the characters of Edgar Allan Poe in the American movie The Pale Blue Eye and Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz in the Polish film Dangerous Gentlemen. The first two chapters of the work present biographies of historical figures on which the characters were based, condensed to the most important life events. Based on rich in both cases biographical sources, they present the childhood and youth of our heroes, their formative period, adult life and their - in various ways unusual - deaths. This part of the work extensively quotes the letters of Poe and Witkacy, as well as those of people close to them, to give the reader an idea of the feelings immanent at particular moments in their lives. The next two chapters of the work are a detailed analysis of the films corresponding to the theoretical part. They feature a brief consideration of the current work of people creatively associated with them. Before character characterization began, the plot of each film was described in detail. The characters are analyzed in many aspects, with particular emphasis placed on the language they use and their relationships with their surroundings, as one of the elements that most strongly constitute the whole of these heroes. Their costumes and the set design were not left out. Conclusions were drawn about the characters and their overall presentation in the films. At the end of the work, the analysis results were summarized. Personal conclusions about the role of artists in the American and Polish media, all based on the analysis and the author's observations, were also shared.
