Abstrakt (EN)
The article deals with the phenomenon of the so-called Basilian Ruthenian Enlight-enment, which fits into the broader context of the Catholic Enlightenment, which was not fully compatible with such characteristics of the secular Enlightenment as rationalism, empiricism, secularization, anti-clericalism. An analysis of the typo-graphic activity of Basilian monks allows us to assume that it reflects an attempt to reconcile the incompatibility of religious and secular thinking and the cultures of Slavia Orthodoxa and Occidentalis.In the publishing activity of the Basilian Order, two trends can be distinguished, which can be pre-named as the enlightened and non-enlightened Enlightenment. Basilian/Ruthenian Enlightenment was characterized by 1) the use of the language of its faithful (Ruthenian vernacular speech); 2) shift away from the “high” classicist style and baroque stylistic ornamentation, 3) referring to the worldview of recipients: their belief in superstition, magic, etc.In this way, the Basilians co-created a specific religious identity, which looked like an attempt to create a particular, middle, variant of a third culture that differed from Slavia Occidentalis and Slavia Ortodoxa, which Ukrainian scolar Igor Skochylias preferred to call Slavia Ruthenica Unita. At the same time, the whole set of cultural characteristics, which outlined the space of functioning of this subculture, allow us to justify the thesis about the distinctiveness of the Ruthenian Uniate Enlightenment
