Dramat hebrajski w literaturze izraelskiej
Abstrakt (EN)
The article illustrates the Hebrew theatre from its beginning till today. It gives a short history of the beginning of a theatre in Hebrew, and shows that Hebrew drama is, in large, a part of modern Hebrew literature, especially in its early days. The article presents the profile of the main theatres in Israel, and discusses the core issues that theatres in Israel deal with. Such topics are: Zionism, its history and ethos, the Holocaust, Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and burning social issues in Israel like secular-religions relations. It appears that the mainstream theatre in Israel is rather conservative and commercial due to being dependent on the ticket-buying audience. Another reason for its conservatism is its tendency, already from its early pre-state days till today, to reflect its audience’ way of life and thinking. More critical and experimental theatre can be found in fringe theatre in Israel.
