Jądro ciemności Josepha Conrada jako książka artystyczna – studium literacko- projektowe

Celem poniższej pracy magisterskiej jest przedstawienie projektu Jądra Ciemności Josepha Conrada w formie książki artystycznej. Część pierwsza ma charakter opisowy. Kolejne rozdziały szczegółowo omawiają zagadnienia związane z książką artystyczną, tłem powstania Jądra Ciemności, oraz prezentują poszczególne elementy projektu, wyjaśniając ich funkcje i źródła. W rozdziale pierwszym przedstawione zostały założenia teoretyczne i ideowe związane z książką artystyczną zmieniające się razem ze wzrostem jej popularności. Ponadto podjęta została próba jej zdefiniowania oraz wskazanie związków z wybranymi nurtami awangardy. Następnie na podstawie biografii Josepha Conrada, zaprezentowano kontekst powstania Jądra ciemności ze skupieniem uwagi na osobistych doświadczeniach autora, opisanych między innymi w prowadzonej przez niego korespondencji i dziennikach. Ostatni rozdział poświęcony jest szczegółowej analizie realizacji książki artystycznej inspirowanej powieścią Conrada, wraz z omówieniem przyjętych rozwiązań wizualnych, w tym elementów formalnych takich jak typografia, czy projekt okładki oraz elementów konceptualnych, jak korespondencja między tekstem literackim, a malarstwem i fotografią. Druga część pracy, to realizacja projektu, przedstawiona w uproszczonej formie pliku pdf. Składa się na nią koncept oprawy, ilustracja wykorzystana jako wklejka (dostosowana do przewidywanych wymiarów publikacji) oraz właściwa część projektu, czyli wnętrze książki.

The purpose of the following thesis is to present the project of Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness in the form of an art book. The first part is in descriptive character. The following chapters discuss in detail the issues related to the art book, the background of the creation of Heart of Darkness, and present the various elements of the project, explaining their functions and sources. The first chapter presents the theoretical and ideological assumptions related to the artist's book, changing along with the growth of its popularity. In addition, an attempt is made to define it and to point out its connections with selected currents of the vanguard. Then, on the basis of Joseph Conrad's biography, the context of the creation of Heart of Darkness is presented with a focus on the author's personal experiences, described, among other things, in his correspondence and diaries. The last chapter is devoted to a detailed analysis of the realization of the artist's book inspired by Conrad's novel, with a discussion of the visual solutions adopted, including formal elements such as typography and cover design, as well as conceptual elements such as the correspondence between the literary text and painting and photography. The second part of the work is the realization of the project, presented in the simplified form of a pdf file. It consists of the binding concept, the illustration used as a paste-up (adapted to the expected dimensions of the publication) and the actual part of the project -the interior of the book.
