Analiza indonezyjskich i tajskich okładek książek z cyklu Harry Potter J.K. Rowling. Inspiracje autorów i nawiązania kulturowe.

Książki o Harrym Potterze już przez ponad ćwierć wieku są jednymi z najpopularniejszych powieści na świecie. Weszły do kanonu kulturowego i do dziś pozostają bestsellerami. Fenomen serii sprawił, że zaczęło powstawać wiele projektów, nawiązujących do świata wykreowanego przez J. K. Rowling, w tym zagraniczne edycje oryginalnej sagi, z nowymi okładkami, stworzonymi przez lokalnych ilustratorów. Każdy artysta jest inny, posiada inne zaplecze kulturowe i warsztat, a w swoich projektach potrafi zainspirować się najróżniejszymi zjawiskami, zwykłymi rzeczami, czy konkretną ideą, w tym także samą książką, do której tworzy ilustracje. Celem pracy jest ukazanie różnorodności źródeł inspiracji artystów, projektujących indonezyjskie i tajskie okładki do serii Harry’ego Pottera – Nicholasa Filberta Chandrawienaty oraz Arusa „Archa” Angchuana. Poddano analizie same okładki, przedstawiono elementy i tradycje kultury indonezyjskiej, jak i opisano okres zwany „The Golden Age of Illustration” oraz dwóch artystów w nim tworzących.

The Harry Potter books have been among the world's most popular novels for more than a quarter of a century. They have entered the cultural canon and remain bestsellers to this day. The phenomenon of the series has led to the creation of many projects, referring to the world created by J. K. Rowling, including foreign editions of the original saga, with new covers, created by local illustrators. Each artist is different, with a different cultural background and workshop, and in his projects he is able to be inspired by a wide variety of phenomena, ordinary things, or a particular idea, including the very book for which he creates illustrations. The purpose of this paper is to show the variety of sources of inspiration of artists designing Indonesian and Thai covers for the Harry Potter series - Nicholas Filbert Chandrawienata and Arus “Arch” Angchuan. The covers themselves are analyzed, elements and traditions of Indonesian culture are presented, and the period known as “The Golden Age of Illustration” and the two artists working in it are described.
