United States sanctions against Iran and their impact on regional security

Po pierwsze, analizy przeprowadzone w tym artykule opierają się na realistycznej teorii stosunków międzynarodowych. Stąd też analizując sankcje nałożone przez Stany Zjednoczone na Iran, brana pod uwagę perspektywa skupia się na równowadze sił, hegemonii regionalnej i interesie w zakresie sił. Zastosowanie tych ideologii pomoże czytelnikowi zrozumieć złożone stosunki między Stanami Zjednoczonymi a Iranem na przestrzeni dziejów, a także współczesną walkę o władzę na Bliskim Wschodzie. Po drugie, głównym celem tego badania jest podkreślenie, czy sankcje nałożone na Iran osiągnęły swój cel w interesie amerykańskim i kontrolowały rosnącą siłę i wpływy irańskiego reżimu w regionie. Hipoteza zostanie sprawdzona na podstawie dwóch głównych regionalnych studiów przypadków: Lewantu i Zatoki Perskiej, podkreślając trzy aspekty: religię, ekonomię polityczną i wyniki społeczno-polityczne. Czytelnik może dojść do wniosku, że amerykańskie sankcje nałożone na Iran nie tylko mają skutki przeciwne, które szkodzą polityce Stanów Zjednoczonych na Bliskim Wschodzie, ale także nie paraliżują irańskiego reżimu w dalszym wspieraniu jego motywów. Dlatego sankcje promują ubóstwo, odbierają obywatelom publiczną władzę polityczną i umożliwiają irańskiemu rządowi osiągnięcie swoich celów metodami zastępczymi.

Firstly, the analyses conducted in this paper is done through the realist theory of international relation. Hence, when analyzing the sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran, the perspective taken into account focuses on the balance of power, regional hegemony, and interest in the terms of power. Employing these ideologies will help the reader understand the complex relationship between the United States and Iran throughout history, as well as their contemporary tug of war for power in the Middle East. Secondly, the main objectve of this research is to highlite wether the sanctions imposed on Iran acheived their goal for the American interest and controlled the Iranian regime’s increasing regional power and influence. The hypothesis will be proven through two main regional case studies: the Levant, and the Gulf, highlighting three aspects: religion, political economy and sociopolitical ourcomes. The reader can conclude that not only do the the American sanctions on Iran have countereffects that harm the United State’s policy in the Middle East, but also, fail at paralyzing the Iranian regime from furthering it’s motives. Hence, sanctions promote poverty, take away the people’s public political power and enables the Iranian government to achieve its goals through proxy methods.
