Biblioteka Polska w Paryżu (1838-1871). Studium bibliologiczne.

Głównym celem rozprawy doktorskiej było zrekonstruowanie dziejów oraz zbadanie działalności Biblioteki Polskiej w Paryżu (dalej BPP) w latach 1838–1871. W rozprawie poruszone zostały zatem kwestie związane z historią instytucji, ale też gromadzeniem, opracowaniem i udostępnianiem księgozbioru. Podjęto także próbę odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy i w jakim stopniu zgromadzony księgozbiór był użytkowany przez społeczność emigrantów oraz Francuzów, a także kto z niego korzystał. Ponadto przyjrzano się osobom, które współtworzyły księgozbiór, czyli darczyńcom, wydawcom oraz drukarzom współpracującym z Biblioteką. W dalszej części pracy poszukiwano odpowiedzi na pytanie, jaki wizerunek Biblioteki wykreowany został przez prasę emigracyjną, francuską oraz polską. Celem pracy było również opisanie codziennego funkcjonowania BPP w szerszym kontekście społeczno-kulturowym. Ponadto opisane i przeanalizowane zostały sylwetki kadry bibliotecznej.

The main objective of the doctoral dissertation was to reconstruct the history of the activity of the Polish Library in Paris (hereinafter: PLP) in the years 1838–1871. Hence, the dissertation raised issues pertaining to the history of this institution, as well as collecting, handling and sharing of the book collection. Moreover, an attempt was made to answer the question whether (and to what extent) the accumulated collection was utilised by the community of emigrants and the French, as well as by whom exactly. What is more, a focus was put on the individuals who co-created this collection, i.e., donors, publishers and printers cooperating with the Library. Further, an answer was sought to the question what was the image of the Library created by the press in exile, the French and the Polish press. The aim of this paper was also to describe the day-to-day functioning of the PLP in a broader social and cultural context. Moreover, profiles of the library staff were described and analysed.
