Problemy filozoficzne związane z kryzysem uchodźczym w perspektywie myśli Ojców Kościoła

Celem niniejszej pracy jest przyjrzenie się filozoficznym problemom związanym z kryzysem uchodźczym i zastanowienie się nad tym, w jaki sposób owe problemy są poruszane przez Ojców Kościoła. Praca składa się z czterech rozdziałów. Pierwszy z nich nosi tytuł „Godność ludzi ubogich”. Na początku owego rozdziału wskazuję na to, że, zgodnie z biblijnym i patrystycznym rozumieniem ubóstwa, migranci i uchodźcy mieszczą się w grupie ubogich. Następnie prezentuję poglądy Ojców Kościoła na temat ubogich, zwłaszcza zaś na temat godności ludzi ubogich, zwracając przy tym uwagę na teologiczne i filozoficzne podstawy godności ludzi ubogich, które wskazują myśliciele wczesnochrześcijańscy, jak i na różnicę między dominującym w przedchrześcijańskiej kulturze grecko-rzymskiej stosunkiem do ubogich a podejściem, jakie prezentują Ojcowie Kościoła. Drugi rozdział poświęcony jest zagadnieniu własności. Staram się w nim unaocznić istotność poglądów na temat własności w myśleniu o migracji, a także przedstawić poglądy Ojców Kościoła na temat własności oraz ukazać, jak owe poglądy mogą okazać się pomocne w rozumieniu przyczyn uchodźstwa i w prawidłowej odpowiedzi na owo zjawisko. W rozdziale tym pokazuję również, jak poglądy Ojców Kościoła na temat godności ludzi ubogich kształtują ich poglądy na temat własności oraz jak ich refleksje na temat własności wiążą się z ich podejściem do gościnności. Poglądom Ojców Kościoła na temat gościnności przyglądam się w trzecim rozdziale. W rozdziale tym wskazuję na różnice między dwoma wzorcami gościnności: wczesnochrześcijańskim a przedchrześcijańskim (czy pozachrześcijańskim) grecko-rzymskim. Staram się przy tym wskazać na szczególną aktualność wzorca wczesnochrześcijańskiego w kontekście obserwowanego obecnie zaniku gościnności. Przedstawiam także to, jak Ojcowie Kościoła rozumieją gościnność, za jak bardzo ważną cnotę ją uważają, jak uzasadniają to, że należy ją praktykować oraz w jaki sposób ich zdaniem należy udzielać gościny. Ukazuję przy tym wpływ poglądów Ojców Kościoła na temat godności ludzi ubogich na ich rozumienie gościnności. Pod koniec rozdziału przyglądam się wczesnochrześcijańskim instytucjom służącym udzielaniu gościnności. Czwarty i ostatni rozdział, poświęcam trzem zagadnieniom: koncepcji porządku miłości (ordo caritatis), kwestii, jak udzielać pomocy i wymówkom, służącym usprawiedliwianiu nieudzielania pomocy. W owym rozdziale prezentuję poglądy Ojców Kościoła na te trzy kwestie, w szczególny sposób skupiając się na porządku miłości. W rozdziale tym próbuję ukazać, że współcześni politycy i publicyści, powołując się na porządek miłości w swoich narracjach antyuchodźczych i antymigranckich, interpretują ową ideę w zupełnie inny sposób niż pojmują ją Ojcowie Kościoła. Pokazuję także, że na podstawie poglądów Ojców Kościoła na temat porządku miłości można zasadnie argumentować przeciwko współczesnym antyuchodźczym i antymigranckim narracjom i praktykom politycznym.

In this thesis aims I aim to take a look at the philosophical problems connected with refugee crisis and reflect on the way in which these problems are present in social thought of the Church Fathers. Thesis consists of four chapters. The First of these chapters is titled ‘Dignity of poor people’. At the beginning of this chapter I show that, according to biblical and patristical understanding of ‘The poor’, migrants and refugees fall into the group of poor people. Then I present views of the Church fathers on poor people, especially on their dignity. Writing about that I draw attention to the theological and philosophical foundations of the dignity of poor people, which are shown by early Christian thinkers. I also point out the difference between the prevailing attitude toward the poor in pre-Christian Greco-Roman culture and the approach presented by the Church Fathers. The second chapter is about the issue of property. I try there to highlight the significance of views on property in thinking about migration. Then I present the views of the Church Fathers on property and showing how these views can be helpful in understanding the causes of refugee movements and in responding properly to this phenomenon. In this chapter, I also show how the Church Fathers' views on the dignity of poor people shape their views on property and how their reflections on property are connected to their approach to hospitality. In the third chapter, I take a look at the views of the Church Fathers on hospitality. In this chapter, I point out the differences between two models of hospitality: early Christian and pre-Christian Greco-Roman. At the same time, I try to highlight the relevance of the early Christian model in the context of the currently observed decline in hospitality. I also present how the Church Fathers understood hospitality, how highly they valued this virtue, how they justified the practice of it, and what they teached about the way in which hospitality should be offered. I show the influence of the Church Fathers' views on the dignity of poor people on their understanding of hospitality. Toward the end of the chapter, I describe early Christian institutions dedicated to providing hospitality. The fourth and final chapter has three main topics: the concept of the order of love (ordo caritatis), the question of how to provide help, and the excuses used to justify not helping. In this chapter, I present the views of the Church Fathers on these three topics, with a particular focus on the order of love. In this chapter, I try to show that contemporary politicians and journalists, when referring to the order of love in their anti-refugee and anti-immigrant narratives, interpret this idea in a completely different way than the Church Fathers understood it. I also show that based on the views of the Church Fathers on the order of love, one can reasonably argue against modern anti-refugee and anti-immigrant narratives and politics.
