"Who Visits Spas? Abstract The article analyses the discourse on naming visitors to destination spas, using as source material the chronicle of the Czech (formerly Czechoslovak) spa town of Jáchymov covering 1945–2008. I also refer to scientific discourse in order to capture and emphasize the emic perspective (contained in the chronicle), showing the way of naming spa visitors from the point of view of the language spoken by the spa community (residents and city authorities). From this perspective this article describes a fundamental problem for the different way of defining spa visitors in scholarly works in English and those originating from the Central European tradition or the local discourse, as exemplified by the Jáchymov Chronicle. I consider that a different way of naming people who visit the spa in each ofthese discursive spheres translates into a different grasp of corporeality in relation to spa practices.
