This Master Thesis delves into Austria's role in pursuing global peace and security within the United Nations (UN) framework. The study aims to uncover the implementation of Austria's security policy within the UN, its contributions to international peace and security, and the impact of its specialized peacekeeping units on the UN's peacekeeping initiatives. The research is grounded in the hypothesis that Austria's security policy aligns with the UN's core objectives concerning peace and security maintenance, owing to its traditionally neutral stance. Additionally, the hypothesis posits that the UN benefits from Austria's specialized peacekeeping units, highlighting their valuable contribution to the UN's peacekeeping missions. Overall, this paper, on the one hand, illustrates Austria’s beneficial impact on UN peacekeeping missions but also shows limitations and highlights a shift in personnel and budget allocation for peacekeeping efforts after Austria acceded to the EU in 1995.
