This paper explores the representation of children-soldiers during the African civils wars by considering three novels : Allah n’est pas obligé and Quand on refuse on dit non by Ahmadou Kourouma and Johnny Chien méchant by Emmanuel Dongala. The analysis will focuse on the causes of the phenomenon and on the representations of children for whom cruelty and inhumanity form part of everyday life. The theme of violence, is also submitted to analysis. Finally, appears the question of moral and social engagement of the literature: this question was discarded after the african independencies, but phenomenons like children-soldiers obliged to think over the necessity of ethic commitment.
