СПОРЫ И ДИСКУССИИ ВОКРУГ ПОЛЬСКОГО НАЦИОНАЛЬНОГО ТЕАТРА: 1990-1996

The subject of the research is the discussion around the Polish National Theatre in the 90s of the 20th century. After a fire in 1985, the question arose: what was the fate of the historic building and the drama troupe. The discussion can be roughly divided into three periods: 1990, 1993-1995. and 1996. During the discussion, which was attended by theatre critics, theatre directors, actors and cultural figures, important issues for the first Polish stage were raised: what is the mission of the National Theatre after Poland gained independence; what functions the theatre should perform (representative, social, political, artistic); what goals and objectives should be set and solved. The discussion turned out to be very important and even necessary for the development of Polish theatre after 1989. As a result, it was possible to evaluate all the previous experience of the National Theatre development, to formulate very important urgent problems facing the first Polish stage at a new period.
