Der Tod erzählt. „Die Bücherdiebin“ von Markus Zusak

Tematem niniejszej pracy jest analiza bestselerowej opowieści ,,Złodziejka Książek’’ (The Book Thief ) Markusa Zusaka. Australijko-niemiecki pisarz podejmuje w niej temat wojny, nazizmu i Holokaustu widzianych oczami dziecka – dziewięcioletniej dziewczynki Liesel Memminger dorastającej w hitlerowskich Niemczech. W pracy koncentruję się na obranej przez autora perspektywie – narratorem powieści jest bowiem śmierć, która przygląda się losom głównej bohaterki i jej bliskich. W oparciu o wytyczony przez Raula Hilberga podział na sprawców, ofiary i świadków w badaniach nad Zagładą (,,Perpetrators, Victims, Bystanders. Jewish Catastrophe 1933-1945’’) zastanawiam się, gdzie w Hilbergowskiej triadzie można usytuować śmierć i jakie są konsekwencje obrania takiej optyki w powieści o Holokauście.

The topic of this work is the analysis of the bestselling story “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak. In it the Australian-German writer deals with topics such as war, Nazism and the Holocaust as seen through the eyes of a child – the nine year old Liesel Memminger who is growing up in Nazi-Germany. In this work I want to concentrate on the perspective that was chose by the author – because the narrator of the story is death itself who is observing the fate of the main protagonist as well as those who are closest to her. Based on Raul Hilberg’s research on the Holocaust, which led to his division of people into perpetrators, victims and bystanders (as seen in “Perpetrators, Victims, Bystanders. Jewish Catastrophe 1933-1945”) the goal of this work is to find out where in Hilberg’s triad the perspective of Zusak’s death could be situated and what the consequences of taking up such a portrayal of the Holocaust in a book are.

Das Thema dieser Arbeit ist die Analyse des Bestsellers ,,Die Bücherdiebin‘‘ (The Book Thief) von Markus Zusak. In ihm behandelt der australisch-deutsche Autor Thematiken wie Krieg, Nationalsozialismus und den Holocaust aus den Augen eines Kindes – der neunjährigen Liesel Memminger, die in Nazi-Deutschland aufwächst. Diese Arbeit soll sich auf der, vom Autor gewählten, Perspektive konzentrieren – der Erzähler der Geschichte ist nämlich der Tod selbst, der das Schicksal der Hauptprotagonistin und ihren Nächsten beobachtet. Auf Raul Hilbergs Forschung am Holocaust basierend, welche zu seiner Einteilung der Menschen in Täter, Opfer und Zuschauer (,,Perpetrators, Victims, Bystanders. Jewish Catastrophe 1933-1945‘‘) führte, soll das Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit sein, herauszufinden wo Zusaks Tod in dieser Triade platziert werden kann und was die Konsequenzen einer solchen Darstellung des Holocausts in einem literarischen Werk sind.
