Humor in the Translation of the Polish Dubbed Version of Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok

Niniejsza praca licencjacka zagłębia się w złożony proces tłumaczenia humoru, koncentrując się na polskiej wersji dubbingowej filmu pt. „Thor: Ragnarok.” Celem było przeanalizowanie, w jaki sposób humor obecny w oryginalnej wersji angielskiej jest tłumaczony dla polskojęzycznej publiczności. Metodologia opiera się na analizie porównawczej poszczególnych krótkich dialogów i scen między wersją angielską a jej polskim dubbingowym odpowiednikiem. Analiza koncentruje się na tłumaczeniu gry słów, ironii, sarkazmu oraz połączenia humoru werbalnego i niewerbalnego. W pracy wspomniano również o różnych trudnościach, z którymi tłumacz musi się zmierzyć podczas tłumaczenia humoru oraz o technikach i strategiach stosowanych w poszczególnych przypadkach. Rozumiejąc unikalne wyzwania i stosując odpowiednie strategie, tłumacze mogą poprawić komediowe wrażenia odbiorców z różnych środowisk kulturowych. This thesis delves into the complex process of humor translation, focusing on the Polish dubbed version of the film Thor: Ragnarok. The aim of this study was to analyze how the humor present in the original English version is adapted and translated for a Polish-speaking audience. The methodology is based on a comparative analysis of particular short dialogues and scenes between the English version and its Polish dubbed counterpart. The analysis focuses on translating wordplay, irony, sarcasm and verbal and non-verbal humor combined. The thesis also mentions various struggles the translator has to face when dealing with humor translation and the techniques and strategies used in particular cases. By understanding the unique challenges and employing suitable strategies, translators can enhance the comedic experience for audiences across diverse cultural backgrounds. Moreover, the research underscores the importance of further exploration in this field to improve the quality and effectiveness of humor translation in audiovisual content.
