Celem pracy jest analiza języka używanego w twórczości tureckiej pisarki Elif Şafak na podstawie fragmentów jej powieści Pchli Pałac i Bękart ze Stambułu. Autorka bada, dlaczego Şafak w swoich dziełach stosuje osmańsko-turecką leksykę, mimo że większość tych słów wyszła z użycia we współczesnym języku tureckim. Praca sprawdza, czy użycie osmanizmów w jej twórczości ma na celu podkreślenie kulturowej i językowej tożsamości Turcji oraz jak wpisuje się w postmodernistyczny charakter literatury. Analiza obejmuje również wpływ pochodzenia autorki na język jej twórczości.

The purpose of the thesis is to analyse the language used in the works of Turkish writer Elif Şafak based on excerpts from her novels The Flea Palace and The Bastard of Istanbul. The author investigates why Şafak uses Ottoman-Turkish lexis in her works, despite the fact that most of these words have gone out of use in modern Turkish. The paper examines whether the use of Ottomanisms in her works is intended to emphasise Turkey's cultural and linguistic identity and how it fits into the postmodern character of the literature. The analysis also covers the impact of the author's background on the language of her work.
