Poeta z bożej łaski. O romantycznej grafomanii

Praca poświęcona jest romantycznej grafomanii. Na podstawie porównania haseł słownikowych i teoretycznych prób konceptualizacji pojęcia grafomana autorka stwierdza, że grafomania miała swoje początki w romantycznych przemianach wizji poety i zadań stawianych poezji. Grafomania w rozumieniu autorki jest zjawiskiem sytuującym się pomiędzy aspektami literackimi i społecznymi, co wynika ze stopniowego wykształcania się nowoczesnej infrastruktury życia kulturalnego, w tym profesjonalnego czasopiśmiennictwa i instytucji stymulujących rozwój krytyki literackiej. Autorka rekonstruuje biografię i recepcję twórczości dwóch dziewiętnastowiecznych grafomanów: Kajetana Jaksy Marcinkowskiego i Wincentego Kiszki Zgierskiego. Porównanie środowiskowej reakcji nie tylko na twórczość, ale i same postaci wymienionych artystów wraz z interpretacją ich dzieł pozwala autorce postawić tezę, że niska ocena twórczości pisarza nie jest ani wystarczającym, ani jedynym powodem określenia go grafomanem.

The work is devoted to the issue of Romantic graphomania. Based on a comparison of dictionary entries and theoretical attempts to conceptualise the notion of the graphomaniac, the author concludes that graphomania had its origins in the Romantic transformations of the poet’s vision and the tasks assigned to poetry. Graphomania, as understood by the author, is a phenomenon situated between literary and social aspects, which stems from the gradual development of the modern infrastructure of cultural life, including professional periodicals and institutions stimulating the development of literary criticism. The author reconstructs the biographies and the reception of the works of two nineteenth-century graphomaniacs: Kajetan Jaksa Marcinkowski and Wincenty Kiszka Zgierski. By comparing the reaction of the literary community not only to the works but also to the personalities of these artists, alongside an interpretation of their works, the author puts forward the thesis that a poor assessment of a writer’s work is neither a sufficient nor the sole reason for labelling him a graphomaniac.
