Jacques Rigaud’s Drawings in Warsaw of the Residences of Louis XIV
ORCID
Abstrakt (EN)
This shorter notice discusses a set of eight previously unpublished drawings by Jacques Rigaud (1681–1754), from the collection of the last king of Poland, Stanisław August Poniatowski (1732–98). These drawings are preparatory to engravings depicting the palaces of Louis XIV at Amboise, Monceaux, Anet and Clagny published in the famous album Recueil choisi des plus belles vues des palais et maisons royales de Paris et des environs. They are comparable to other preparatory drawings by Rigaud for the Recueil, some of which are kept in the collections of the Bibliothèque national de France, Musée de Versailles, Albertina and the Museum of Fine Art in Boston. The decorative mounts and the blind stamp found on two drawings from the discussed set allow the association of these works with the well-known Parisian framer and collector Jean-Baptist Glomy (1711–86).
