Análise do conto O Barão de Branquinho da Fonseca na perspectiva do realismo fantástico de Franz Hellens e da estética do insólito de Sigmund Freud

Celem pracy jest analiza opowiadania O Barão autorstwa portugalskiego pisarza okresu modernizmu, Branquinho da Fonseki, na tle realizmu fantastycznego Franza Hellensa oraz estetyki niesamowitości Zygmunta Freuda. W pracy przedstawiono najważniejsze cechy modernizmu europejskiego oraz portugalskiego, z zaznaczeniem skłonności epoki do ukazywania świata przedstawionego przez pryzmat świadomości (lub nieświadomości) postaci, co jednocześnie skonfrontowano z literaturą poprzednią, pozytywizmem, w której warstwa psychiczna jednostki nie była zazwyczaj brana pod uwagę. Skupiono się na drugiej fazie modernizmu portugalskiego związanej z magazynem Presença. Następnie pokrótce omówiono twórczość Branquinho da Fonseki. W kolejnym podrozdziale ukazano przemiany dwóch warstw społecznych – utratę znaczenia arystokracji oraz wzrost roli mieszczaństwa – biorąc pod uwagę przede wszystkim wydarzenia związane z kontekstem portugalskim, takie jak odkrycia geograficzne. W drugiej części pracy przedstawiono najważniejsze cechy realizmu fantastycznego oraz estetyki niesamowitości. Trzeci rozdział w całości poświęcono analizie interpretacyjnej opowiadania Fonseki. Opowiadanie to można odczytywać przez pryzmat psychologiczny, fantastyczny, a nawet społeczny, gdyż twórca ten nie pozostawał wierny jednej koncepcji, a w jego twórczości można odnaleźć cechy zarówno drugiej fazy modernizmu portugalskiego, jak i neo-realizmu.

The aim of this paper is to analyse the short story O Barão by Branquinho da Fonseca, a Portuguese writer of the modernist period, in the perspective of Franz Hellens’ fantastic realism and Sigmund Freud’s aesthetics of the uncanny. The thesis presents the most important features of European and Portuguese modernism, highlighting the tendency of the era to show the world through the prism of the characters’ consciousness (or unconsciousness), which was simultaneously confronted with previous literature, positivism, in which the psychological layer of the individual was not usually taken into account. The focus is put on the second phase of Portuguese modernism associated with the magazine Presença. This is followed by a brief discussion of the work of Branquinho da Fonseca. The next subchapter shows the transformation of two social strata – the loss of significance of the aristocracy and the rise of the bourgeoisie – taking into account primarily events related to the Portuguese context, such as geographical discoveries. The second part of the work presents the most important features of fantastic realism and the aesthetics of the uncanny. The third chapter is entirely devoted to an interpretative analysis of Fonseca's short story. The story can be read through a psychological, fantastic and even social lens, as the author did not remain faithful to a single concept, and his work displays features of both the second phase of Portuguese modernism and neo-realism.

O objetivo dessa tese é analisar o conto O Barão, do escritor português do modernismo Branquinho da Fonseca, na perspectiva do realismo fantástico de Franz Hellens e a estética do insólito de Sigmund Freud. O trabalho apresenta as características mais importantes do modernismo europeu e português, destacando a tendência da época para mostrar o mundo através do prisma da consciência (ou inconsciência) das personagens, o que foi confrontado com a literatura anterior, o positivismo, em que a camada psíquica do indivíduo não era normalmente tida em conta. O foco é colocado na segunda fase do modernismo português, relacionada com a revista Presença. Em seguida, discuta-se brevemente a bibliografia de Branquinho da Fonseca. No subcapítulo seguinte, foram apresentadas as transformações de duas camadas sociais – a perda de importância da aristocracia e o aumento do papel da burguesia – tendo em conta principalmente os acontecimentos relacionados com o contexto português, tais como as descobertas geográficas. Na segunda parte do trabalho, foram apresentadas as características mais importantes do realismo fantástico e da estética do insólito. O terceiro capítulo é inteiramente dedicado à análise interpretativa do conto de Fonseca. Este conto pode ser lido através de uma perspetiva psicológica, fantástica e até social, porque o autor não se manteve fiel a uma única concepção e na sua obra podem encontrar-se características tanto da segunda fase do modernismo português como do neorrealismo.
