This paper analyzes cinematic representations of New York City’s urban space and their impact on shaping the city’s image in the context of spatial planning, place marketing, and social geography. The main objective is to determine how selected films depict the metropolitan space, what functions they serve within the narrative, and how they contribute to the city’s cultural myth. The theoretical section discusses the role of film as a medium that perpetuates perceptions of urban space and outlines the socio-spatial evolution of New York City as a global cultural icon. The research material consists of four feature films: Taxi Driver, Manhattan, The Devil Wears Prada, and Spider-Man: No Way Home. They were deliberately selected to showcase different visions of New York: a city in crisis, a romantic city, a city of aspirations, and a city of global spectacle. The analysis is based on criteria such as the function of space in the narrative, the characters’ relationships with their surroundings, and the aesthetics of the imagery. The research findings demonstrate that New York is not merely a backdrop for events, but an active element of the narrative and a vehicle for meaning. Its cinematic images - though diverse - are based on recurring motifs (monumentality, success, danger, uniqueness), through which cinema effectively contributes to the global myth of the metropolis and influences its social perception.
