English Monolingual Encyclopaedic Dictionary of Characters from the Game Honkai: Star Rail

Praca licencjacka „Angielski Jednojęzyczny Słownik Encyklopedyczny Postaci z gry ‘Honkai: Star Rail’” jest podzielona na dwie części - teoretyczną i praktyczną. Część teoretyczna dotyczy pojęć leksykografii, leksykologii, słowników, a także makro- i mikrostruktury słowników. Wszystkie wymienione terminy zostały zdefiniowane za pomocą cytatów specjalistów z dziedziny językoznawstwa i leksykografii. Ponadto wspomniane są również dwie typologie słowników, które są następnie analizowane i porównywane ze sobą. Część praktyczna opiera się na słowniku postaci z gry „Honkai: Star Rail”. Słownik podzielony jest na cztery części. Pierwsza część zawiera definicje terminów i nazw używanych w dalszej części słownika. Druga część zawiera krótkie opisy frakcji, na które podzielone są wszystkie postacie. Trzecia część dotyczy wszystkich Aeonów obecnych w grze i przedstawia ich wygląd, światopogląd, cechy charakterystyczne oraz frakcje, które za nimi podążają. Ostatnią częścią jest sam słownik, który zawiera wszystkie 41 grywalne postacie z „Honkai: Star Rail” podzielone według ich frakcji. Każda postać jest szczegółowo opisana, dostarczając wszystkich informacji, które są obecnie znane na jej temat. Wszystkie wpisy zawierają imię postaci, jej wygląd, ogólny opis charakteru, historię, zainteresowania, powiązania z innymi postaciami, a także misję w grze, w której postać została wprowadzona i krótki opis tejże misji. Celem pracy licencjackiej jest stworzenie akademicko rygorystycznego, ale przystępnego narzędzia, które poprawi zrozumienie postaci w „Honkai: Star Rail”, przyczyniając się zarówno do społeczności graczy, jak i do badania leksykografii w mediach rozrywkowych.

The bachelor thesis English Monolingual Encyclopaedic Dictionary of Characters from the Game Honkai: Star Rail is divided into two parts – theoretical and practical. The theoretical part deals with the concepts of lexicography, lexicology, dictionaries, as well as the macro- and microstructure of dictionaries. All of the mentioned terms are defined using quotes by specialists in the field of linguistics and lexicography. Furthermore, mentioned are also two typologies of dictionaries, which are then analyzed and compared to one another. The practical part is based on a dictionary of characters from the game Honkai: Star Rail. The dictionary is divided into four parts. The first part provides definitions of the terms and names used later in the dictionary. The second part includes short descriptions of the factions into which all the characters are divided. The third part deals with all Aeons present in the game and provides their appearance, worldview, characteristics, and the factions that follow them. The last part is the dictionary itself which includes all 41 playable characters of Honkai: Star Rail divided by their factions. Each character is described in detail, providing all the information that is currently known about them. All entries include the character’s name, their appearance, a general description of their character, their backstory, their interests, their connections to other characters, and the game mission where the character is introduced and a short description of the mission. The bachelor thesis aims to create an academically rigorous yet accessible tool that enhances the understanding of characters in “Honkai: Star Rail”, contributing to both the gaming community and the study of lexicography in entertainment media.
