Esej Ignacego Krasickiego "O drogach dawnych" oraz jego przekład rosyjski w czasopiśmie "Wiestnik Jewropy"

The paper discusses the essay “On the Old Roads” (from the series “The Notes”) by Ignacy Krasicki and its translation into Russian from a press-historical and translatology perspective, published in the periodical “Vestnik Evropy” in 1807. The translator is unknown. There is analysed on the historical-literary ground a genre (the essay and its connections with The Essays by Montaigne) and theme (development of the European civilization, voyages and everyday life in antiquity). The paper attempts to determine the place of Krasicki’s transla- tions of the essays in the structure of the periodical and in the corpus of Polonica included in it. There are analysed on the translatology ground the translation strategies and modifications of the translator (the problem with the vocabulary related to construction).
