Global Education in Poland
Abstrakt (EN)
The aim of the article is to analyse the state and the development of global education in Poland - as a pedagogical idea, research area and educational practice. The article describes historical and political context, the main stakeholders as well as theoretical development of global education. Several factors influencing global education in Poland are explored. First, the article discusses Poland’s perspective as a semi-peripheral country (as a former aid recipient and now ODA donor, a country without a colonial legacy which itself has an experience of totalitarian oppression). Second, it examines the seminal role of Non-Governmental Development Organisations (NGDOs) in the development of global education and mainstreaming it into the formal education sector. Third, it points out the relatively weak collaboration among academia and non-governmental sector, which results in some isolation and little knowledge about their respective work. Last, the article describes challenges for global education in Poland related to recent political changes and conservative turn.
