Financial Education and Personal Finance Management of Students: The Case of The International Business Program at the Faculty of Management

Kompetencje finansowe odgrywają główną rolę w zaspokajaniu indywidualnych potrzeb finansowych każdego członka społeczeństwa. W niniejszym badaniu przeanalizowano zagadnienia związane z perspektywami, zarządzaniem i kontekstem kompetencji finansowych, w szczególności w odniesieniu do studentów Międzynarodowego Programu Biznesowego Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego studiujących Zarządzanie Finansami Osobistymi, w celu lepszego zrozumienia czynników, które na te kompetencje wpływają. Dane zostały zebrane od studentów drugiego roku studiów magisterskich za pomocą częściowo ustrukturyzowanych wywiadów, w których studenci opowiadali o swoim postrzeganiu finansów oraz o tym, jak ten temat ewoluował od dzieciństwa do ich obecnej sytuacji i poziomu świadomości. Analiza wykazała, że studentom brakuje wiedzy na temat finansów i nie czują się komfortowo w tym obszarze.

Financial literacy has created a main role for everyone to play in addressing their own financial needs. This investigation investigates the perspective, management, and background of financial literacy and looks specifically at that of students of the International Business Program of the University of Warsaw studying Personal Financial Management in order to better understand the factors that influence it. Data was collected from students in the second year of their master's program and was gathered through semi-structured interviews in which the students narrated their perception of finances, and how this topic has evolved from childhood to their current reality and understanding. The analysis revealed that students lack knowledge about financial literacy and do not feel comfortable on the subject.
