W pracy zaprezentowana została obecna sytuacja polityczna na arenie międzynarodowej, która na dzień dzisiejszy skupiona jest przede wszystkim na polityce siły. Przedstawiono terminologię potrzebną do zrozumienia tematyki. Wytłumaczono takie pojęcia jak soft power czy tytułowe hard power, a także opisano ich historię. Główny nacisk położono na przebieg zmian, w tym, jak przekształcał się ład światowy do II wojny światowej. W jaki sposób wykształcił się jeszcze do niedawna panujący prządek dwubiegunowy. Następnie przedstawiono okres dominacji Stanów Zjednoczonych. Zarówno podczas lat ich rywalizacji ze Związkiem Radzieckim, jak i zmian wynikających z przełomu lat 1989-91 – czyli powstania i upadku tzw. jednobiegunowej chwili. W szczególności podkreślono kwestię działających na wzorze amerykańskim dwóch pakietów (Washington Consensus oraz demokracji liberalnej), a przede wszystkim rodowodu Unii Europejskiej. Na to wszystko nałożono rolę aktualnie najważniejszych światowych graczy - USA i Chin, a także rosnącego znaczenia Wschodzących Rynków oraz Globalnego Południa; jak wpływają one na kształtowanie się nowo rodzącego się ładu. Na zakończenie skupiono się zarówno na dzisiejszej sytuacji Unii Europejskiej, jak i jej potencjale na przyszłość. Poruszone zostają kwestie problemów z jakimi boryka się wspólnota, a także jak widziany jest jej rozwój w przeciągu paru najbliższych lat.

The article presents the current political situation in the international arena, which, as of today, mainly focuses on power politics. To understand the issue, all necessary terminology is presented. Terms such as soft power or the title hard power are explained and their history is described. The main focus is on the course of change, including how the world order was transformed up to World War II. How the bipolar order that prevailed until recently developed. Next, the period of US dominance is presented. Both during the years of their rivalry with the Soviet Union and the changes resulting from 1989-91 - the rise and fall of the so-called unipolar moment. In particular, the focus was on the two packages operating on the American model (the Washington Consensus and liberal democracy) and, above all, on the genesis of the European Union. All this was overlaid with the role of the currently most important global players - the US and China - as well as the growing importance of Emerging Markets and the Global South; how they are shaping the emerging order. Finally, the focus was on both the current situation of the European Union and its potential for the future. It touches on the problems the community faces today, as well as how it will develop over the next few years.
