Indywidualizm a wspólnotowość: analiza treści zamieszczanych na Instagramie w pierwszych dniach inwazji Rosji na Ukrainę w 2022 roku w kontekście dyskursu terapeutycznego

Praca analizuje kulturę indywidualizmu i dyskurs terapeutyczny, bazując na koncepcjach Małgorzaty Jacyno przedstawionych w książce „Kultura indywidualizmu”. Badanie opiera się na analizie postów publikowanych na Instagramie przez popularne profile psychologiczne w pierwszych tygodniach po rozpoczęciu pełnoskalowej inwazji Rosji na Ukrainę 24 lutego 2022 roku. Wybrane treści służą jako przykład wskazujący na silne dowartościowanie indywidualizmu w środowiskach nowej klasy średniej. W pierwszym rozdziale omówione zostaje pojęcie indywidualizmu w kontekście historii socjologii, z odniesieniem do myśli Małgorzaty Jacyno i Ulricha Becka, a także napięcie między indywidualizmem a wspólnotowością. Drugi rozdział przedstawia historyczną kontekstualizację na podstawie badań socjologicznych dotyczących reakcji Polaków na wojnę w Ukrainie. Trzeci rozdział skupia się na pojęciu stylu życia i koncepcji homo eligens Andrzeja Sicińskiego, ukazując wybór jako kluczowy element tożsamości klasy średniej. Ostatni, czwarty rozdział, poświęcony jest analizie zebranych materiałów źródłowych w odniesieniu do omówionych wcześniej pojęć. Badanie ukazuje, jak kultura indywidualizmu definiuje współczesną klasę średnią i wpływa na jej reakcje, również w sytuacjach pozornie wymagających wspólnotowego działania, takich jak pomoc uchodźcom wojennym.

This dissertation analyses the culture of individualism and therapeutic discourse with reference to the notions of Małgorzata Jacyno presented in her book entitled “Culture of Individualism”. The work bases on the analysis of Instagram posts published by popular psychology profiles during first weeks of full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine on the 24th of February, 2022. The selected content serves as an example pointing to the strong appreciation of individualism among the new middle class. In the first chapter, the concept of individualism is presented in the context of the history of sociology with reference to the thought of Małgorzata Jacyno and Ulrich Beck, as well as the tension between individualism and a sense of community. The second chapter showcases the historical background founded in sociological studies on the Poles’ reactions to the war in Ukraine. The third chapter elaborates on the notions of lifestyle and homo eligens, as described by Andrzej Siciński, thus presenting choice as the essential part of the middle-class identity. The fourth chapter is devoted to analysing the gathered material with reference to the previously discussed notions. The study shows how the culture of individualism defines the contemporary middle class and exerts influence on its responses – including situations seemingly calling for a community-based approach, as in the case of helping war refugees.
