Toksyczne narracje w literaturze popularnej na polskim rynku książki, na wybranych przykładach

Praca analizuje temat toksycznych narracji, takich jak gloryfikacja przemocy, manipulacja, czy stalking w literaturze popularnej zarówno w Polsce, jak i na świecie. Jej celem jest próba rozpoznania czynników kształtujących zainteresowanie czytelników literaturą popularną. Znajdują się w nim również cele szczegółowe, związane z określeniem czynników wpływających na decyzje zakupowe, oddziaływanie influnencerów na popyt, stosunku respondentów identyfikujących się ze społecznością LGBTQ+ do literatury zawierającej toksyczne relacje z queerową reprezentacją, w szczególności gdy zostaje ona przedstawiona w sposób negatywny, a także czy gloryfikacja toksycznych zachowań wpływa na postrzeganie relacji przez osoby młode w prawdziwym życiu. W pracy znajdują się podrozdziały poświęcone powieściom wzbudzającym kontrowersje ze względu na poruszane tematy, takie jak romans z osobą duchowną czy niewolnictwo uwarunkowane realiami danej kultury i epoki. Autorka podejmuje także próbę analizy, w jaki sposób rosnąca popularność toksycznych heteroseksualnych powieści wpływa na postrzeganie queerowych relacji, które przez lata były marginalizowane i ukazywane w sposób stereotypowy. Szczególna uwaga została poświęcona zjawisku społecznej akceptacji toksycznej relacji w środowisku LGBTQ+ oraz stosunku do historii osadzonych w kontrowersyjnych ramach, lecz przedstawiających zdrowe relacje. Wnioski z badania pokazują, że o wyborze decyduje gatunek, następnie motywy oraz obecność reprezentacji LGBTQ+. Zostało również potwierdzone, że obecność toksycznych zachowań w literaturze ma wpływ na osoby młode.

This thesis examines the phenomenon of toxic narratives in popular literature, such as the glorification of violence, manipulation, or stalking, both in Poland and internationally. Its primary aim is to identify the factors that shape readers’ interest in popular literature. The study also pursues more specific objectives, including an analysis of the determinants of purchasing decisions, the influence of social media influencers on demand, the attitudes of respondents identifying with the LGBTQ+ community toward literature featuring toxic relationships with queer representation—particularly when such representation is portrayed negatively—as well as whether the glorification of toxic behaviors affects how young people perceive relationships in real life. The thesis includes subsections dedicated to novels that have sparked controversy due to their subject matter, such as romances involving clergy or depictions of slavery shaped by the cultural and historical context. The author further attempts to analyze how the growing popularity of toxic heterosexual narratives influences the perception of queer relationships, which for years have been marginalized and presented in stereotypical ways. Particular attention is given to the phenomenon of social acceptance of toxic relationships within the LGBTQ+ community and to attitudes toward works set in controversial frameworks that nonetheless portray healthy relationships. The findings indicate that genre is the most significant factor in readers’ choices, followed by motifs and the presence of LGBTQ+ representation. The research also confirms that depictions of toxic behaviors in literature affect young audiences.
