Teaching film-making vocabulary to upper primary EFL learners: Teacher’s resource pack generated using AI

Przyswajanie słownictwa jest istotnym elementem w stawaniu się kompetentnym i płynnym użytkownikiem obcego języka. Jednakże nauczanie słownictwa może często stawać się monotonne i nieciekawe dla uczniów, gdyż temat lekcji EFL może nie być dla nich interesujący. W konsekwencji głównym zagadnieniem poruszanym w niniejszej pracy jest przyswajanie słownictwa na podstawie aspektów takich jak motywacja ucznia oraz podejście do nauczania oparte na tematyce zajęć. Praca skupia się na słownictwie związanym z tworzeniem filmów w starszych klasach szkoły podstawowej, mając na celu sprzyjanie efektywnego i intrygującego nauczania. Dodatkowo ma ona na celu omówienie braku angażujących materiałów używanych w szkołach oraz promocję materiałów dydaktycznych które wspierają motywację uczniów i ułatwiają aktywną interakcję z ćwiczeniami. Dlatego głównym celem pracy jest uwzględnienie takich środków podczas lekcji EFL. Co najważniejsze, pakiet materiałów dla nauczycieli stworzony na potrzeby tej pracy będzie opisany. Ponadto dołączone będzie jego rekomendowane zastosowanie. Pierwszy rozdział bada teoretyczne aspekty powiązane z przyswajaniem słownictwa, takie jak potrzeby rozwojowe uczniów starszych klas szkoły podstawowej, rolę motywacji w klasie i odpowiedzialności nauczyciela. Zawiera on również streszczenie ogólnego nauczania słownictwa oraz dostarcza metody które ułatwiają przyswajanie. Drugi rozdział prezentuje proces tworzenia pakietu dla nauczycieli, jego szczegółowy opis i zarys używania sztucznej inteligencji, która brała udział w jego kreacji. Dodatkowo krytyczna analiza SI będzie uwzględniona. Zakłada się, że strategie, aktywności i metody umieszczone w pracy ułatwią rolę nauczyciela przez tworzenie materiału dydaktycznego, który jest interesujący i który wspiera aktywny udział w lekcji.

Vocabulary acquisition is a crucial component of becoming a competent and fluent foreign language user. However, vocabulary learning may often become monotonous and uninspiring for the students, as the topic of the EFL lesson may not be interesting to them. Consequently, the primary concern of this thesis is language acquisition based on the learner motivation and subject-centric approach to teaching. The work focuses on vocabulary related to film-making in the upper primary school, aiming to foster effective and captivating learning. The study aims at discussing the lack of engaging materials used in the school settings, as well as promoting teaching aids that support learners' motivation and facilitate active interaction with the exercises. Therefore, the main goal of this thesis is to include such resources in the EFL classroom. Most importantly, a teacher resource pack created for the study will be described and its proposed utilisation will be included. The first chapter of the work explores theoretical issues of vocabulary acquisition, such as the developmental needs of learners in the upper primary, the role of motivation in the classroom and educators’ responsibilities. It also contains the summary of general vocabulary learning and provides methods which facilitate language acquisition. The second chapter presents the process of producing the teacher resource pack and a detailed description of the teaching material along with an outline of utilising artificial intelligence involved in the development. Additionally, AI’s critical analysis will be featured in the chapter. It is predicted that the strategies, activities and methods incorporated in the work will facilitate teachers' role in motivating the learners by producing a teaching material that is interesting in its content and supports active participation in the lesson.
