This master's thesis examines the influence of media on the decisions made by Fantasy Premier League players. A historical perspective is combined with empirical research conducted among Polish participants. The first part of the thesis traces the history of fantasy sports games, beginning with their inception among American sports journalists, continuing through the Italian Fantacalcio and English print leagues, and continuing through the first attempts to bring the game online between 1996 and 2002. The next chapter focuses on the Fantasy Premier League as an official product launched by the league and the changes that affected the media as podcasts, YouTube, and social media began to replace traditional print and television. The third chapter transfers this analysis to Poland, focusing on the sources from which Polish players obtain information and the television rights to broadcast the English Premier League.

The main part of the thesis consists of the author's own research, conducted via an online survey, involving 109 Polish FPL players. The aim was to test four hypotheses. These included the number of media sources used by players, the relationship between engagement in the game and susceptibility to media influence, the role of the FOMO effect in transfer decision-making, and the perception of media as a factor contributing to the formation of so-called template teams. Three of the four hypotheses were confirmed, and the analysis revealed that online sources now clearly dominate traditional media, and the fear of missing out on a popular player is more strongly associated with trend-driven transfers than mere engagement or experience in the game.

This study demonstrates that the influence of media on FPL players' decisions is a real, measurable, and significantly more complex phenomenon than it might seem at first glance.
