Praca zatytułowana „Proper name translation in the English translation of Stanisław Wyspiański's Wesele by Noel Clark” ma na celu omówienie tłumaczenia nazw własnych w brytyjskim tłumaczeniu Wesela Stanisława Wyspiańskiego. Praca składa się z czterech rozdziałów, pierwsze trzy stanowią część teoretyczną, a ostatni analityczną. Pierwszy rozdział dotyczy ogólnych informacji na temat Wesela oraz problemów, które mogą się pojawić przy tłumaczeniu tego dzieła. Kolejny rozdział teoretyczny stanowi omówienie różnych teorii tłumaczeniowych, zagadnień związanych z nieprzetłumaczalnością oraz wskazówek dotyczących tłumaczenia dzieł dramatycznych. W następnym rozdziale przybliżone zostają pojęcia kulturemów i nazw własnych oraz ich funkcji w literaturze. Fragment tej części został również poświęcony na omówienie strategii tłumaczenia nazw własnych. Część analityczna koncentruje się na omówieniu tłumaczenia antroponimów, toponimów, chrematonimów i ideonimów w brytyjskim tłumaczeniu Wesela. Istotnym aspektem analizy są funkcje tych nazw, zarówno w oryginale, jak i w tłumaczeniu. Zanalizowane również zostały: ogólne tendencje tłumaczeniowe, wzór, według którego dział tłumacz oraz konsekwencja w stosowaniu konkretnych strategii.

The thesis titled “Proper name translation in the English translation of Stanisław Wyspiański's Wesele by Noel Clark” is an analysis of the translation of proper names in the British translation of Stanisław Wyspiański’s Wesele. The thesis consists of four chapters, the first three are the theoretical part, and the fourth one is the analysis. The first chapter contains general information about Wesele and potential translation problems of this play. The next chapter discusses several translation theories, the subject of untranslability, and guidelines for drama translation. Furthermore, in the third chapter there are several terms introduced: culturally-bound items, proper nouns, and their functions in literature. A portion of this part was also devoted to proper name translation strategies. The analytical part focuses on the analysis of the translation of anthroponyms, toponyms, chrematonyms, and ideonyms in the British translation of Wesele. An important aspect of this analysis is the functions of these proper names, both in the original and in the translation. Other elements that were examined were: general tendencies in the translation, the pattern used by the translator, and his consistency in using these translation strategies.
