Problem wstecznej przyczynowości a teoria decyzji w świetle paradoksu Newcomba

Praca ta stanowi próbę uchwycenia problematyki zastosowania wstecznej przyczynowości przy realizacjach problemu Newcomba. W tym celu przedstawione zostają pierwotne sformułowanie tego zagadnienia oraz warunki po spełnieniu których można mówić o zachodzeniu tego paradoksu. Będą one pomocne przy określaniu czy dana rekonstrukcja może być uznawana za problem Newcomba, czy nie. Analizie spełniania tych warunków poddanych zostanie kilka znanych prób realizacji problemu Newcomba, czyli problem Fischera, predestynacja jako problem Newcomba oraz dylemat więźniów. Głównym elementem pracy jest prezentacja i krytyczna ocena realizacji problemu Newcomba sformułowanej przez Jana Henrika Schmidta. W rezultacie okaże się, że owa rekonstrukcja, co prawda spełnia znamiona sytuacji Newcombowskiej, ale jej możliwość realizacji jest dosyć wątpliwa. Pracę kończy próba odpowiedzenia na pytanie czy zastosowanie wstecznej przyczynowości do realizacji problemu Newcomba jest w ogóle możliwe.

The paper is an attempt to capture issue of backward causation application to realizations of Newcomb’s problem. For this purpose, the original formulation of this issue and the conditions under which the paradox can be said to occur are presented. These will be helpful in determining whether or not a particular reconstruction can be considered a Newcomb problem. I am going to analyse in terms of fulfilment of these conditions few attempts of realization of Newcomb’s problem, i.e. the Fischer’s problem, the predestination as a Newcomb’s problem and the prisoner’s dilemma. The main component of the paper is presentation and critical discussing of the Jan Henrik Schmidt’s version of the Newcomb’s problem. As a result, it will turn out, that Schmidt’s reconstruction, in fact fulfils the conditions mentioned above, but is not enough plausible in terms of physical possibility. The paper ends with the attempt to answer the question on general possibility of backward causality application to realizations of Newcomb’s problem.
