Network Science in Law: A Framework for Polish Case-Law Citation Network Analysis

Social sciences have already for some time been interested in the use of data-intensive methods for their research. In this article, integrating insights from network science, we present how this method of inquiry can be used in the area of law. In addition to the state-of-the-art review, a framework for the network analysis of Polish case-law is presented, alongside with the description of first prototype that uses a Cray Graph Engine for analysis. This proof-of-concept implementation is treated as a starting point for the discussion of future research directions, involving the analysis of case-law's semantically enriched citation network.
