Abstrakt (EN)
"Tygodnik Ilustrowany" (1859-1939) brought a positivistic, organic concept of a modern popular illustrated magazine to the seventh decade of the 19th century. The editors declared neutrality and independence, which enabled the integration of readers around the achievements of Polish culture. The more recent development of popular culture research allows us to describe this project more clearly. The change in the meaning of the term ‘biedermeier’ allows to see the presence of Biedermeier in "Tygodnik Ilustrowany" and the practice of allegory as a language of communication with readers. In this light, "Tygodnik Ilustrowany" is a good example of the interpenetration of Positivism and Biedermeier.
