Karol Sauerland dedicated some of his texts to G.E. Lessing, which is a sign of his constant interest in the works and personality of this philosopher and writer. Sauerland mentioned Lessing for the first time in The Anthology of German Enlightement (1973), edited in cooperation with Marek Siemek and Tadeusz Namowicz. He focused on investigatingthe rise of radical social-political tendencies in the late phase of the Enlightenment. In this regard, Lessing, less radical author, should be classified as a representative of an early stage of this period. Sauerland dedicated three of his essays to The Parable (Fire in Palace). Following Adorno’s remarks, he compared this text to Kafka’s works. Finally, he was interested in Lessing’s journey to Italy in 1775, particularly – in the diary and letters written during this trip.
