The dissertation is a monograph on the novels of Stefan Kiedrzyński, a forgotten writer of late modernism and the interwar period. The research findings based on available sources present the issues of selected novels by the author in terms of the creation of the space of the fictional world and its characters, considering tendencies and patterns characteristic of popular literature. The work also sheds light on the profile of this overlooked playwright, prose writer, and columnist. The dissertation seeks to answer questions concerning the complex phenomenon of popular literature and the artist himself. It emphasizes Kiedrzyński’s sensitivity to significant social and political transformations, highlighting the accuracy of his social diagnoses and observations. The analysis of Kiedrzyński’s works reveals the reality of interwar Poland, along with all the contemporary threats (communism, Bolshevism, Freemasonry) and the stereotypes surrounding them. Insights into the Great War, revolution, Freemasonry, and the ideological choices of Poles also prove to correspond with the explorations and findings of high-art literature of the period. The study further underscores the directness of the message conveyed in the author’s novels, his focus on the problems of ordinary people, and the distinct axiological project of his works, which defend traditional values—factors that contributed to the extraordinary social reception of Kiedrzyński’s texts.
