The article discusses the issue of the epitextual form – specifically, the interview with an author – in relation to a number of interviews conducted by Michał Nogaś with Olga Tokarczuk, compiled in his volume Z niejednej półki. Wywiady [From More than One Shelf. Interviews]. On this basis, the principal advantages of the epitext can be distinguished: it discloses the intentions accompanying the process of creation of a literary work, delineates the range of expectations the author has toward the reader, offers support in the interpretive process, and develops a sense of integration among the participants that take part in the act of reading. This multifunctionality of the epitext prevents it from being regarded as a marginal form; on the contrary, it ought to be viewed as the quintessential expression of Tokarczuk’s creative idiolect, one that seamlessly intertwines her roles as both author and reader of her own novels.
